Refugee Crisis

We need to solve the refugee crisis on-site.

Welcoming refugees in the UK / European Union will only destabilize the whole continent.

As a sidenote: I do believe that refugees are risk-taking and entrepreneurial. Too bad there could be language, culture, assimilation barrier.

Bottom line: climate change and the refugee crisis are highly related.

IdeaEdit

Is it possible? https://www.google.com/#q=seawater+irrigation

They say yes...

So let's use use US military budget to bomb the desert... It will create a channel. Water will flow and we will grow food on a desert. At the same time sea levels will drop just slightly (as the water from the ocean will pour on the desert).

What worst could happen?

ArchiveEdit

(random notes moved from previous wiki) Origin of the crisis global warming - draught - rural people migrating to cities.

No water + no food => problem

What if we were to fix water and food?

In the recent weeks I was discussing GMO - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_food - now I have a slightly better idea what to think:

if it is profit driven enterprise to provide feed to animals that are exploited on industrial scale (15000 litres of water to provide 1kg of beef see Guardian) then it is not cool if it is to save lives then we can re-consider ethical and moral rights... (still not forming my opinion, just saying that if we do this right and may save people from dying) Importance of food produced locally - save on transport, save on storage, people are already eating plants growing locally and are known for them for centuries.

Alternative: soylent. Easy and cheap to manufacture, long shelf life. No brainer in the initial stage until regular food production is restored.

Produce food we need energy and waterEdit

There is abundant sun (draught) and to get water - use the Ocean. Now it will sound like a crazy idea - pour water from the Ocean into sub-saharan / middle east regions to reduce the impact of raising see levels. No idea about amount energy that would be required / no idea about impact on environment. They say https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SolarCity offers free solar panels, they say there was a clean tech bubble... Another idea - if the nuclear plant produces huge amounts of energy 24/7/365 what happens with energy outside peak hours - is it stored or wasted?

OK... Not going into much details, the point was: use energy and water from the Ocean to provide fresh water and produce enough food for local communities.

Housing, education, sanitation, medical care... Don't know where to start, don't know what are the basics, don't know what is most required. I think food and water. This is probably the most essential of essentials...

Great interview on London Real with Vinay Gupta - http://re.silience.com/ - London Real -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rys_saLiDA

Don't have time to find right fragment but basically there were 6 reasons why people are dying:

  • too cold
  • too hold
  • injury
  • hunger
  • thirst
  • ilness

I agree that we should focus on life-threatening circumstances and only then think about entertainment, culture, education...

Interesting way of supplying goods - "Gaza doctor Tarek Loubani creates 3D printed stethoscopes to alleviate medical supply shortages caused by blockade" - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/gaza-doctor-tarek-loubani-creates-3d-printed-stethoscopes-to-alleviate-medical-supply-shortages-caused-by-blockade-10495512.html

Solve the problem where it originates

They say US induced a conflict destabilising regions. It's been 10 years in making. It reaches me now and it's pretty messed up...

In moments like this I wish I was able to offer more help - people who made it that far are strong, healthy, determined, risk-taking... Would be nice if they can acquire some land and establish https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enclave_and_exclave

Hiring people for outside the EUEdit

(I've never hired in my life and employing people from refugee areas is not worth the effort)

Yesterday I was staying in a hotel. First time in months I have the access to a TV. Once in a while it can a be stunning and entertaining experience... It wasn't the case this time - it was rather worrying and depressing - I've learnt about refugees issue.

This photo also made rounds in UK press:

(it was a cover story all over the place)

It reminds me of:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holocaust https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kindertransport And:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oskar_Schindler Schindler's List: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108052/ To legally employ Syrian people in the UK

Not talking about US (my goal) - https://www.google.com/?#q=h1b+2016+cap - trusting .gov as a trusted resource - http://www.uscis.gov/working-united-states/temporary-workers/h-1b-specialty-occupations-and-fashion-models/h-1b-fiscal-year-fy-2016-cap-season - not even trying, ROI (return of investment) is negative - 65,000 cap of H-1B visas is way too little - too much competition, US employers being reluctant to initiate recruitment process.

I'm talking about the UK - https://www.gov.uk/tier-2-general - and ways I can help here and now.

You can apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa if you’ve been offered a skilled job in the UK There is some:

paperwork to fill requirements to meet hurdles to overcome months of wait time BUT... It can be done... BUT... First I need to establish if this is a good idea at all?

Thoughts / feedback / ideas?

Every bit of energy invested in UK bureaucracy (and every £ invested in legal fees) to support a skilled worker is not invested in building http://hexayurt.com/ or providing nutritious soylent. I can do anything, I cannot do everything. As a matter of principle I only engage in activities that provide 10x return of investment.

Maybe some charity should apply for Tier 5 (Temporary Worker - Charity Worker) visa?

(they have processes and people on payroll in place)

Easy thing to do right nowEdit

https://www.gov.uk/uk-visa-sponsorship-employers/job-suitability

The advert must run in the UK for 28 days in most cases, either continuously or in 2 stages. I can publish an advert and see how it develops from here...

(I'm embarrassed that I didn't do that - halfway through I realised it is not worth the effort - maybe I should try anyway)
